“Where shall I go? What shall I do?” “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.” — Gone With the Wind

I have to start off with the clip, because text doesn’t do justice to Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh’s famous exchange:

Beyond being one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history, it kind of ties into how I’ve been feeling these past few days without having the burden/blessing of the Missourian’s strict requirements. In a nutshell; I’m finding myself with no place to go and not much to do. As for Rhett’s line? I don’t know how that applies, but you can’t have Scarlet’s plea without his cold retort.

Three days into the semester, and I have to admit — I’m feeling kind of lost. Without the Missourian, I don’t know what to do with my time! I don’t have that stressed, frazzled feeling, but I don’t know where to go when I’m not in class.

I ran into fellow Missourian reporter Amanda del Buono yesterday and we both agreed that we have no clue what to do now that our time at the Missourian is over. Where do we go? What do we do? Help us, Rhett!

Of course, it’s the beginning of the semester and we’re faced with just a little bit of reading for our classes. The ball will get rolling and in a few weeks I’ll probably blog about how stressed I am or what I have to do to get back on track with my classes. But for now, I’m sort of going through withdrawal because of all the free time on my hands, so I’m filling it with as many things I can, including:

  • Applying to be a contributing writer for Vox Magazine
  • Planning to rush Phi Sigma Pi
  • Making a pact with my fellow movie buffs, Hannah Burkett and Bethany Weathers, to see all Oscar-nominated films before Feb. 26 (nominations come out Tuesday! Be prepared for a blog post!)
  • Going to the Rec for 1-2 Tiger X classes a day
  • Applying to be a Journalism School Ambassador

Eventually, I’ll have a lot to do and many places to go, and I’m looking forward to having so many awesome things in my life that I’ve got to write that dreadful post about how much I’ve taken on and how I can’t manage it. Quite honestly, I like that feeling of feeling like I have too much to control than nothing to control at all. Being overwhelmed makes me feel productive.

So back to Syllabus Week, when everything feels easy, the possibilities are endless and frankly, I don’t give a damn.
